Spain was the final team to qualify for Rio de Janeiro, and earned their berth by virtue of winning a qualifying tournament.

The tournament included runners-ups from regional tournaments.  The Cup elimination round included Ireland, Russia, Canada, Hong Kong, Samoa, Germany, and Chile.
Spain, who was not seeded at the tournament, put in an impressive run of upsets to take the title with a last second try giving them the title over Samoa.

“I am still trying to take it in,” Spanish player Angel Lopez said after the victory.  “This is a dream for us.”
