Rieko Ioane is the younger brother of Akira Ioane, a fellow New Zealand Rugby Sevens teammate. They come from a distinguished line of rugby athletes, as their father, Eddie, played lock for Manu Samoa in the 1991 World Cup and their mother, Sandra, formerly played for the New Zealand Women’s National Team. Rieko debuted for NZ’s National Team in 2015 when he was just 17 years old. A notable achievement from his 2015 season is scoring two tries against England during the Wellington Sevens Series finals.
